My approach is affirming, warm, and down to earth. I pull from humanistic, relational, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I also utilize elements of ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Feminist Therapy, and DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy). As a gay male psychologist, I am especially interested in cultural identities and masculinity. I conducted my dissertation research on the internalized homophobia of gay men and am interested in internalized oppression of all forms.
I am a licensed, counseling psychologist located in Washington, DC. I earned my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University at Albany, State University of New York and completed an American Psychological Association-accredited doctoral internship at the Catholic University of America Counseling Center. After my internship year, I completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the George Washington University Mental Health Services. In addition to my private practice work, I served as a Staff Psychologist and the LGBTQ specialist at the Georgetown University Counseling and Psychiatric Services for 2 years before transitioning to private practice full time.
My sessions are 50 minutes, and most clients receive the greatest benefit by engaging in weekly therapy. I offer free 15-20 minute phone consultations to see if we are a good fit to work together.
